Looking down the surprisingly well-maintained path, you see a town not too far ahead and make your way to it. Soon you find yourself in the town square surrounded by the hustle and bustle of a stereotypical market: shouting street vendors, chattering townsfolk, and the occasional laughing child. ”Ugh, people”, you groan, looking down at your map to gather yourself… ROUTE 2 “Who's in charge here, I gotta get home AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.” This is the QUICK ROUTE. Extra items for this route: 15 It’s the fastest route, perfect for those who want a quick completion. ROUTE 3 “Welp, guess I should start making a living for myself.” This is the CAREER ROUTE. Extra items for this route: 20 - 35 There are four career paths to choose from. Perfect for those who want a straightforward challenge, but would like some options. ROUTE 4 “I’m going to the guild to become a true hero!” This is the HERO ROUTE. Extra items for this route: 40 - 75 It is a more difficult path with one Bad End. Not for the faint of heart. ROUTE 7 “What’s that crossed out part of the map?” This is the DARK ROUTE. Extra items for this route: 20 - 50 It is a treacherous route with three Bad Ends. Easier item-wise than Hero, but your path will be cut short if you aren’t careful. ROUTE 9 “I’ve got this gold, so might as well go to the pub and make merry!” This is the ROMANCE ROUTE. Extra items for this route: 15 - 55 It has the most options of any route. You can either stick with the main love interest or go off and make a harem, the world is your oyster. Route 2 Ending After a moderate amount of effort, you had made your way through the various errands. It was all minor quests: save a cat from a tree, deliver this parcel to the church, nothing you couldn’t handle. You waltz back into the mayor’s office and slam the list down. “Okay, what now?” “Sit down in the chair right here and close your eyes,” she instructs. You play along, eyelids shut tight in anticipation. Just as you are about to ask what’s going to happen, you are struck by a sharp throbbing in the back of your head. Your consciousness fades, the darkness enveloping you… Your body jolts awake in a dark room illuminated solely by the white screen of the MAL homepage. Instinctively, you place your hand on the back of your head and when you feel no pain, your gesture turns into a general stretch. Route 3.1 Ending What started as a pet sitting job slowly but surely became a ‘career’ as the odd-jobs weirdo. You work an occasional gig, doing whatever people around you need at that moment. Because of that, the townsfolk really began to love having you around. While you didn’t exactly fit in with your lack of daily structure and your odd, foreign mannerisms, they came to respect your hustle and relied on you on multiple occasions. As well, you found a sense of fulfillment and purpose in your work. The loose structure gave you plenty of time to relax and soak in the scenery of this new world which remained fresh and vibrant. It wasn’t what one would expect from a contrived “isekai’d to another world” story, but it was your story and you were glad to live it. Congratulations, you have reached the end of your journey! Route 3.3 Ending Working as a blacksmith ended up being a lot more challenging than you expected. The forging furnace caked you in soot and sweat as you swung your hammer down to the anvil. You chose Route 4.1 All your time spent binging RPGs back in your old life seems to have paid off, because you find yourself leveling up fairly quickly while taking care of slimes and goblins. Their movement patterns were predictable and sloppy; it's almost as if the developers rushed this out after procrastinating all year… Anyway, with your mission list dwindled down you decide to head back to the guild. There, you are stopped by an elf dressed in white robes. “Excuse me, are you in a party?” they ask sheepishly. “My friends and I noticed you always seem to be walking around alone in town and were wondering if you’d consider partying up with us?” They gesture to a table nearby where two men, one burly and the other comically scrawny, wave with a grin. “We’re just starting as a team and our synergy isn’t the best. I’m a healer and the other two are a tank and an archer. We could use a more well-rounded member to balance us out. Wanna give it a try?” You hadn’t really thought about creating a party up to this point, but it does seem like the logical next move. The three seem like decent people and you imagine it would be way easier having some help rather than roughing it solo. Despite your original assumptions, the sickly, bony party member was actually the group tank and the muscular gentleman was the archer. Both were very proficient and made for fun companions. Route 5.2 Ending Despite humble beginnings, your party had worked its way up to the top of the guild. Wherever you show up an infectiously lively mood hits everyone, as you make merry and reminisce loudly about the latest quests. However, a subtle air of worry permeates today's festivities. Everyone is aware that tomorrow is the day your team finally goes out to defeat The Demon King. You raise a toast, attempting to keep the mood light as your group drinks the night away. The trek towards the final dungeon is surprisingly short; it barely gives you time to register the challenge ahead. Before you know it, the four of you are at the final door. "Ready?" your healer asks. The three of you nod in unison. The door swings open abruptly and just as planned, the four of you rush at the throne, attempting to catch the Demon King by surprise. It seemed like an idiotic plan to you personally, but you trusted your leader enough to follow along and deal with the consequences later. But despite all your instincts telling you this wouldn't work, the four of you really do close in on the Demon King and pummel him into submission before he's able to even fight back. He lays there on the floor, completely unconscious as the four of you look to each other in bewilderment. Finally breaking the awkward silence, your healer clears their throat and yells: "Woo! That's the power of friendship!" You simultaneously wince and giggle at how corny they were. But you find yourself joining in as relief overcomes all of you. The anti-climatic ending was hard to swallow, but the four of you had undoubtedly worked hard and earned this sweet, sappy moment of triumph! Route 6.2 Ending It took some adjusting, but you’ve somehow grown to enjoy working for The Demon King. While the villainous crew was not the snuggliest bunch, it was a nice change of pace being able to just do whatever you wanted without worrying about the consequences. Plus, The King himself was actually rather generous in sharing his wealth amongst his followers. You had considered fleeing countless times, but something in your heart kept you there. While it certainly wasn’t what you had planned on happening all those years ago when you barged into the guild, it wasn’t too shabby. Though in the back of your head, when you lie there at night, you couldn’t help but wonder if someone else would come along to defeat The Demon King and put you out of a job. Route 6.3 Ending Finally, after all that hard work, you’ve maxed out your levels and are ready to take care of some unfinished business. You once again approach the door to The Demon King’s lair, take a deep breath, and enter. He sits upon his throne with the same arrogant smirk that has haunted your dreams over the past few months. You throw out your first attack and notice a hint of strain in his expression. It’s working. The battle rages on for hours, trading blows as sparks of magic and the clash of steel lights up the dim backdrop. Your lungs burn as you gasp for breath, your arms ache from a thousand swings, your knees shake from the constant pressure, knowing that one tiny mistake could mean your demise. But somehow, your body continues to move forward as if guided by an unknown deity. Just as you start to think there is no end in sight, you hone in on an opening in his defense. Roaring in triumph you charge in, delivering a magnificently conclusive blow. The Demon King groans in agony as he drops to the ground. You’ve done it! You fall to your knees in relief. You chose Route 7 The map you were given was in pristine conditions except for the bottom right corner, which was covered in ink and partially crumpled. Perhaps Mavi had mistakenly damaged the document before gifting, but something about the damage seems intentional. As if there was something there that he didn't want you knowing about. Your curiosity piqued, you head east. A deep fog rolls in, covering the evening sun as you make your way towards these outskirts of town. The eerie silence is only broken by the soft tap of your sneakers against the brick below. On this road you find a dilapidated building, the door creaking and swaying in the wind as if beckoning you inside. Before you even have time to question your decisions, you feel the cold brass of the doorknob in your hand. You swing the door open and are greeted by a shrouded figure. "Greetings," it says in a raspy tone. You take in your surroundings, observing shelves stuffed full of occultist and/or creepy products. Ah, a magic store. You figure this would be a good place to spend your Gold, as you never know when a magic item can come in handy. Noticing none of the items have price tags, you approach the counter: "Excuse me," you say as you lay your coins on the table. "What can I buy for this?" "Pah, get lost!" the shopkeeper exclaims, waving their hand dismissively. Guess this wasn't much money after all... Thanks Mavi... "Oh come on," you groan back. "There's gotta be something I can buy with this." "... Fine," they say. The figure slowly rises from its seat and then scurries around the shop, gathering a few trinkets angrily. They slam them down onto the counter. "Pick one," they bark. After pondering this a bit, you find yourself continuing straight into a shrouded forest. Covered by the foliage, you soon approach the mouth of a cave. You chose Route 7.1.2 Intrigued by the prospect of finding some sort of secret and grateful to get out of the fog for a moment, you proceed into the narrow cave. While the distant illumination becomes more apparent, it is still much too dark to see. You stumble upon what you guess is a stalagmite, but manage to stop yourself from falling to the ground. Maybe it would be wisest to use the wall of the cave to guide you? You reach out towards it, but as soon as you make contact you hear a faint *click*. Oh... that was a trap wasn't it? The thought passes your mind only briefly before you feel the floor open up. You grasp at the wall but it is no use, you are plummeting into darkness. Your life flashes before your eyes as you reflect on the cruelty of the situation. Just before you give up hope, however, a blinding light illuminates the cave. Am I... floating? You frantically look around for the source of light only to find it coming from your pocket. You reach in hesitantly, pulling out the tarot deck you had purchased. Suddenly the cards burst forth from their box and encircle you, spinning slowly. With that, you feel a sort of loving warmth as you are lifted out of the trap door which you had fallen through. You are gently lowered to your feet, but still weak from the shock, you fall to your hands and knees on the spot. *click* Illuminated by the cards, you watch as three arrows zoom towards you only to be deflected by what appears to be an electrical barrier. "Damn, these cards sure were a good deal," you say under your breath, subsequently laughing in relief. Standing up, you now assess the situation. You are deep into a cave that has now revealed itself to be full of booby traps. Under normal circumstances it would obviously be best to turn tail and get out ASAP, but you appear to have been granted protective magic that is apt at negating said traps. The cards are also lighting up the path, which eases some of the tension you'd feel about continuing. But most importantly, you muse, if there are traps here, it must be guarding something good. Bolstered by your newfound power, you trek on. Route 7.1.2 Ending Despite its unassuming look on the exterior, the cave ends up being more like a labyrinth; it takes you a frankly ridiculously long time to navigate through it. And as you progressed, the traps became more complex and more frequent. A pit of acid here, a den of snakes there, whoever set these REALLY didn't want any guests. Regardless, your protective tarot deck shrugged off all adversity. As you watched the cards guard you, you started to get an idea of what each card was capable of; rather than them all being one entity, each had a unique ability and identity that you have grown to appreciate. After disabling what felt like the 100th trap, you finally find yourself in front of an ornate door. Sheepishly, you open it and peer inside. There, what appeared to be a small stuffed lion toy was lounging around watching a TV and laughing. "What the..." you mumble to yourself, confounded at the sight. Hearing you, the plush turns its head, looking back: "Oh, we got a new one!" he exclaims in an over-exaggerated Osakan accent. In stark contrast to the forest you had spawned into, there is a complete lack of wildlife. No bird chattering, no scampering of squirrels ahead, nothing. The only thing breaking the silence was your footsteps, crinkling the dead leaves below. Left, right, left, right, left, the monotony and lack of stimulation really starts to eat away at your sanity. Suddenly, a distant hearty chortle brings you back to reality. You look up ahead and to the left: In the distance, at a lower elevation from where you stand, you see what appears to be a campfire and a group of men having a feast. Your stomach growls at the prospect of food and your mind races at the prospect of talking to another human again. The once boisterous scene immediately silences as the large group of men turn to look at you. "Well, hello there," one of them says, stepping out from the group. His eyes are closed as he smiles at you. They remain closed as he goes on. "What brings you out here, young one?" You explain your situation as you feel everyone closing in on you. "Oh, you poor thing," the man says. "Well, you are just in time! We were about to start dinner actually and would love for you to join us." He steps forward again, now within arms-length from you. You nod in appreciation at the hospitality, watching the man's thin black tail sway to and fro. Wait, a tail? The rest of the group now encircles you completely, all staring silently. "Today is a special occasion, actually It's rare for us to get such fresh meat out here," the man says, licking his lips. You look at the table. There is no meat. Uhhhhhhhh. The gravity of this situation hits you like a freight train as you chuckle nervously. Your eyes dart around for an escape route, but you are completely closed in at this point. The man is now close enough for you to make out the small black horns protruding from his unkempt hair. Oh, this is a graveyard... Exhausted, you plop down next to a tombstone to try and catch your breath, feeling drowsiness start to take hold. Your eyelids flicker, but just before you are able to let slumber take hold you are startled by a deep rumbling. The ground beneath you begins to quake. An earthquake? No, you look across the graveyard, noticing that only patches of the ground are shaking and shifting. Below you, a bony arm emerges and you crawl away in terror. One by one, a hoard of zombies emerge. They turn their attention to you. Outnumbered, weaponless, and stricken with fear, you know this is the end for you. You don't even attempt to put up a fight. You chose Route 7.1.9 The right path quickly leads to what appears to be a dead end. You curse under your breath as you slouch down to the ground. Peering out into the darkness, however, a slight glimmer catches your eye. After working up the ambition, you rise back to your feet and head towards it. Lit up ominously by a ray of moonlight is a golden staff wedged into the ground. You approach cautiously and take hold. Instantly you are teleported to a dimly lit room draped in velvet. Before you sits a man, a smug look on his face. "Welcome to my humble abode," he exclaims grandly. "I am The Demon King." At first you thought he before you was joking. However, his presence was undeniably intimidating and you instinctively backed away into a defensive stance. "Easy now, I have no intention of fighting you. Quite the opposite actually; you see, you've been chosen as my heir." "Heir, what do you mean?" you ask, still not letting your guard down. "Simple. I've grown bored of my role as The Demon King and I am passing it on. You were chosen as a fitting vessel to be the next." He shrugs dismissively as if he was just passing off a menial task to a coworker. "But all I've done in this world is walk around in a forest..." you retort, feeling as if there must have been some sort of mistake. The Demon King laughs, "Yes, oddly enough this job doesn't really require much. The power is just passed down arbitrarily, despite its grandeur. That said, you will need to do a bit of training." Route 7.1.9 Ending The work you put in to become the next Demon King was just as trivial as the work you had put in to be offered the position. Especially compared to all the exhaustive walking you had to do before this point. Regardless, you finished what had been asked of you and the previous Demon King unceremoniously hands you his crown and cape. "Welp, have fun." he says, teleporting away before you can even come up with a witty retort. You sit down on your new throne and soon after an exhausted man dressed in shiny armor clambers through the door to your room. "Oh, hi," you say. You pick up your hand to wave, but a bolt of black lightning shoots out and vaporizes your guest, leaving you alone again. Oops, I guess this power is going to take some getting used to... You shrug and continue to sit there, wondering when the next time you'll see a hero will be... Congratulations you have reached the end of your journey! You chose Route 7.2.1 Intrigued by the prospect of finding some sort of secret and grateful to get out of the fog for a moment, you proceed into the narrow cave. While the distant illumination becomes more apparent, it is still much too dark to see. You stumble on what you guess is a stalagmite, but manage to stop yourself from falling to the ground. Maybe it would be wisest to use the wall of the cave to guide you? You reach out towards it, but as soon as you make contact, you hear a faint *click*. Oh...that was a trap wasn't it? The thought passes your mind only briefly before you feel the floor open up. You grasp at the wall, but it is no use, you are plummeting into darkness. Your life flashes before your eyes as you reflect on the cruelty of the situation. Man, I'm never going to be able to watch anime again... You chose Route 7.2.3 Now having spent a considerable time in this forest, you are painfully aware of the dreadful silence that surrounds you. In stark contrast to the forest you had spawned into, there is a complete lack of wildlife. No bird chattering, no scampering of squirrels ahead, nothing. The only thing breaking the silence was your footsteps, crinkling the dead leaves below. Left, right, left, right, left, the monotony and lack of stimulation really starts to eat away at your sanity. Suddenly, a distant hearty chortle brings you back to reality. You look up ahead and to the left: In the distance, at a lower elevation from where you stand, you see what appears to be a campfire and a group of men having a feast. Your stomach growls at the prospect of food and your mind races at the prospect of talking to another human again. You chose Route 7.2.4 The choice feels like an absolute no-brainer. You head towards the group, feeling your pace quicken in anticipation. Soon you are there and let off an enthusiastic greeting. The once boisterous scene immediately silences as the large group of men look around, puzzled. "Who's there?" one shouts, looking around frantically. At this point, you are standing out completely in the open. A few of the men are even looking in your direction, but appear to be looking right past you. As well, with some of them wandering so close to you, you notice that everyone here has horns and a tail. You also look towards the corner of camp and find a haphazard pile of what appears to be human bones. Oh, this is a group of demons... "Huh," another exclaims in a joking tone. "Looks like we've all drank a bit too much!" The dismissive, playful comment lands well with companions, as everyone bursts into a roar of laughter and jovial conversation begins again amongst the group. You quietly sigh in relief and look down to your ha... Wait, where are your hands? For that matter, where are your feet??? You seem to be completely invisible. When did that happen? You retrace your steps, thinking to yourself: The last person I saw was that shopkeeper and they were definitely able to see me... That's it! The cloak! You feel the tattered cloth against your arms and chuckled. An invisibility cloak, what a good deal! Your elated musings are rudely interrupted by your stomach growling. Luckily, the rambunctious festivities around you cover up the noise, but your hunger is becoming hard to ignore. You look to a table nearby and find a pile of bread. Carefully avoiding bumping into anyone, you make your way over to the table and grab a loaf when nobody is looking. Success. After sneaking away from the festivities to eat, you then stumble upon a nearby tent. Peering inside, you stand in shock as you are confronted by a pile of what appears to be looted treasures. Route 7.2.4 Ending After bumbling around the forest for a little while longer you were able to find your way out through pure luck. From there, you traveled around the world stealing and subsequently selling items from town to town. While it was certainly not the most ethical way to go about amassing a fortune, you tried to pilfer from thieves and bandits as much as possible, which helped ease the small bit of your conscience that was left nagging at you. Before you knew it, you'd seen the vast majority of the world and held significant money/power, managing to weasel your way into a governmental position in the town you started in all those years ago. That said, you couldn't help but feel that you had missed a chance towards greatness. With this thought looming over you, you resolved to do your best in the proper profession you now held. Perhaps you could lend a helping hand to any other random people who spawned into the world like you did (a phenomenon that turned out to be a lot more common than you'd expect). Oh, this is a graveyard... Exhausted, you plop down next to a tombstone to try and catch your breath, feeling drowsiness start to take hold. Your eyelids flicker, but just before you are able to let slumber take hold you are startled by a deep rumbling. The ground beneath you begins to quake. An earthquake? No, you look across the graveyard, noticing that only patches of the ground are shaking and shifting. Below you, a bony arm emerges and you crawl away in terror. One by one, a hoard of zombies emerge. They turn their attention to you. Outnumbered, weaponless, and stricken with fear, you know this is the end for you. You don't even attempt to put up a fight. You chose Route 7.2.8 The right path quickly leads to what appears to be a dead end. You curse under your breath as you slouch down to the ground. Peering out into the darkness, however, a slight glimmer catches your eye. After working up the ambition, you rise back to your feet and head towards it. Lit up ominously by a ray of moonlight is a golden staff wedged into the ground. You approach cautiously and take hold. Instantly you are teleported to a dimly lit room draped in velvet. Before you sits a man, a smug look on his face. "Welcome to my humble abode," he exclaims grandly. "I am The Demon King." At first you thought he before you was joking. However, his presence was undeniably intimidating and you instinctively backed away into a defensive stance. "Easy now, I have no intention of fighting you. Quite the opposite actually; you see, you've been chosen as my heir." "Heir, what do you mean?" you ask, still not letting your guard down. "Simple. I've grown bored of my role as The Demon King and I am passing it on. You were chosen as a fitting vessel to be the next." He shrugs dismissively as if he was just passing off a menial task to a coworker. Route 7.2.8 Ending The work you put in to become the next Demon King was just as trivial as the work you had put in to be offered the position. Especially compared to all the exhaustive walking you had to do before this point. Regardless, you finished what had been asked of you and the previous Demon King unceremoniously hands you his crown and cape. "Welp, have fun." he says, teleporting away before you can even come up with a witty retort. You sit down on your new throne and soon after an exhausted man dressed in shiny armor clambers through the door to your room. "Oh, hi," you say. You chose Route 7.3.1 Intrigued by the prospect of finding some sort of secret and grateful to get out of the fog for a moment, you proceed into the narrow cave. While the distant illumination becomes more apparent, it is still much too dark to see. You stumble on what you guess is a stalagmite, but manage to stop yourself from falling to the ground. Maybe it would be wisest to use the wall of the cave to guide you? You reach out towards it, but as soon as you make contact, you hear a faint *click*. Oh...that was a trap wasn't it? The thought passes your mind only briefly before you feel the floor open up. You grasp at the wall, but it is no use, you are plummeting into darkness. Your life flashes before your eyes as you reflect on the cruelty of the situation. Man, I'm never going to be able to watch anime again... You chose Route 7.3.3 Now having spent a considerable time in this forest, you are painfully aware of the dreadful silence that surrounds you. In stark contrast to the forest you had spawned into, there is a complete lack of wildlife. No bird chattering, no scampering of squirrels ahead, nothing. The only thing breaking the silence was your footsteps, crinkling the dead leaves below. Left, right, left, right, left, the monotony and lack of stimulation really starts to eat away at your sanity. Suddenly, a distant hearty chortle brings you back to reality. You look up ahead and to the left: In the distance, at a lower elevation from where you stand, you see what appears to be a campfire and a group of men having a feast. Your stomach growls at the prospect of food and your mind races at the prospect of talking to another human again. You chose Route 7.3.4 The choice feels like an absolute no-brainer. You head towards the group, feeling your pace quicken in anticipation. Soon you are there and let off an enthusiastic greeting. The once boisterous scene immediately silences as the large group of men turn to look at you. "Well, hello there," one of them says, stepping out from the group. His eyes are closed as he smiles at you. They remain closed as he goes on. "What brings you out here, young one?" You explain your situation as you feel everyone closing in on you. "Oh, you poor thing," the man says. "Well, you are just in time! We were about to start dinner actually and would love for you to join us." He steps forward again, now within arms-length from you. You nod in appreciation at the hospitality, watching the man's thin black tail sway to and fro. Wait, a tail? The rest of the group now encircles you completely, all staring silently. "Today is a special occasion, actually It's rare for us to get such fresh meat out here," the man says, licking his lips. You look at the table. There is no meat. Uhhhhhhhh. The gravity of this situation hits you like a freight train as you chuckle nervously. Your eyes dart around for an escape route, but you are completely closed in at this point. The man is now close enough for you to make out the small black horns protruding from his unkempt hair. Close enough to you that you feel his hot breath against your neck as he opens his mouth and whispers: "Bon Appétit." Congratulations (?) you have reached the end of your journey! That said, right before the moon was left as your only source of illumination, you had managed to find what appears to be a man-made foot path that curved through the woods. Delirious from the lack of sustenance and the throbbing of your legs (you had been walking nonstop for a whole day after all), you blindly follow the path to a fork. You look to your left, darkness.
