Auxiliary referencing
Hi there. It has bothered me for quite some time that we don't have protocols for how to handle "importation of references with text", i.e. what to do with, for example, DNB text references, both inline and end references, when adapting text to WP. Obviously putting in any such "auxiliary references" is entirely optional and should be because they help in some way; also quite evidently, they really come with a caveat that the references may not have been checked. The precedent for including them, however, is strong, going back to EB1911 adaptations. I'm after format that makes sense, going forward.
So, there are two issues here. I think inline refs that should be retained ought to be handled as under WP:REFGROUP, via {{reflist}}, which can mark them off from ordinary references. For the end references, the best option to me seems to be exemplified by the "quote=" field in {{cite DNB}}: this allows text containing such references to be placed wherever the main reference is, and readers don't really have to bother with reading the sources of the DNB article unless they are interested. (One can imagine in the longer term that the reader could be saved clicks in going back to basic sources, by having them linked direct from WP. I won't insist on that point, though.)
Anyway, we could agree to do this, via WP:WP DNB, for the DNB alone. There is really more of an issue, right now, with end references for the Catholic Encyclopedia adaptations (and there it is pretty useful to understand the sources of the text you're drawing on, or at least so I find). It looks to me as if adding the "quote=" field to {{CathEncy}} would not be a big deal; but I'm not an expert on these things. I wondered therefore what you thought about the whole business. - I have slapped together a mod into Template:CathEncy/sandbox. If you build the variations that you want into Template:CathEncy/testcases you will see how well we have done, and I can then go and further fix. Within the body of testcases I will build a couple of starting examples, and I encourage the creation of the gamut of live and proposed. 1) so you can see what is broken and 2) examples of what they will be like (or comment). — billinghurst sDrewth 11:36, 1 December 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the good work!

File:Offspring Blackall arms.gif needs authorship information
The media file you uploaded as File:Offspring Blackall arms.gif appears to be missing information as to its authorship (and or source), or if you did provide such information, it is confusing for others trying to make use of the image.
It would be appreciated if you would consider updating the file description page, to make the authorship of the media clearer.
Although some images may not need author information in obvious cases, (such where an applicable source is provided), authorship information aids users of the image, and helps ensure that appropriate credit is given (a requirement of some licenses).
- If you created this media yourself, please consider explicitly including your user name, for which:
{{subst:usernameexpand|Billinghurst/Archives/2011/December}}
will produce an appropriate expansion,
or use the {{own}} template.
- If this is an old image, for which the authorship is unknown or impossible to determine, please indicate this on the file description page.
